Significance of Vyas Purnima or Guru Purnima

Vyas Purnima is also known as Guru Purnima. Vyas Purnima is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Maharishi Veda Vyasa, who was a writer as well as a character in the Hindu epic Mahabharata.

The fast observed on the full moon day of Ashad month is known as Ashadhi Purnima. It is believed that Maharishi Ved Vyas was born on this day, hence it is also known as Vyas Purnima(व्यास पूर्णिमा or Guru Purnima(गुरु पूर्णिमा). This year Vyas Purnima will be celebrated on July.

There is a religious belief that Ved Vyas ji was born on the full moon day of Ashad month. That is why it is also called Vyas Purnima along with Guru Purnima. Guru Purnima Known as Ashadh Shukla Purnima

The meaning of the above mantra is that, Ashadh Shukla Purnima is my birthday. This day is called Guru Purnima. On this day, one should worship the Guru with full devotion by offering clothes, jewellery, cow, fruits, flowers, gems, money etc. By doing this, one can see my form in Gurudev.
