Who is Nageshwar

Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is the 9th Jyotirlinga, it is located in outer Dwarka of Gujarat. In Sanatan Dharma this place is very important and sacred place where Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva are dedicated. It is located in Dwarka, Gujarat state and is a major religious and tourist place for Shiva devotees and Vishnu devotees there.

The reason why Gujarat is a big religious state is that it has two Jyotirlingas which are known as Nageshwar and Somnath Jyotirlinga and one of the four Dhams is Vishnu Dham which is world famous “Dwarka” and also has three Shakti Peethas like Ambaji, Pavagadh Kalika, Bahuchara Mata.

How did Nageshwar Jyotirlinga get its name?

This temple is located in Nageshwar village, 17 kilometers outside Dwarka Dham in Gujarat. According to religious belief, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati appeared in the form of a snake and a female snake at the Nageshwar temple. Therefore, it is known as Nageshwar Jyotirlinga.

This place is approximately 17 kilometers from Dwarka city. The Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is located on the seashore, and nearby is a famous temple that is very popular among Shiva devotees. This place is very important from religious and tourism perspectives and is a major religious site for Shiva devotees.

The Story of Nageswar Jyotirlingam

There's a story that goes: In ancient times, there was a demon named Daruk who lived in Darukavan. His wife, Daruka, performed austerities that pleased Goddess Parvati. Daruka said, "I can't go to the forest.

There are many divine medicines there. For the sake of good deeds, let us demons enter the forest." Goddess Parvati granted this austerity. After this, Daruka wreaked havoc in the forest and took the forest from the gods and goddesses. He also captured Supriya, a devotee of Lord Shiva, while she was worshipping.

In this situation, Supriya began meditating on Lord Shiva and asked him for protection. Pleased with her austerities, Mahadev appeared, and a beautiful temple with four doors appeared. A Jyotirlinga shone in the center of the temple.

Supriya worshipped Mahadev with a sincere heart and sought forgiveness from Shiva, seeking the destruction of the demons. She also asked Mahadev to reside in this very spot. Shiva accepted this and sat down at the same spot. This Jyotirlinga form of Lord Shiva came to be known as 'Nageshwar'.

This was one story. However, the Vamana Purana tells another story about this, which I will share with you. Listen.

According to the Vamana Purana, Nageshwar was known as Darukavana, the ancient epic name for a forest in India. In this forest, a great devotee of Lord Shiva lived and worshipped him. A group of dwarf sages, the Balakhilyas, worshipped Lord Shiva for a long time in Darukavana.

To test their devotion and patience, Shiva appeared naked, wearing only the serpents of the Nagas. The sages' wives were attracted to the sage and left their husbands to follow him. This distraught and enraged the sage. He lost his patience and cursed the ascetic, saying that his lingam would fall.

The lingam has a limited meaning, but it also has a deep spiritual symbolism. The lingam fell to the earth, and the entire world trembled. No one understood what had happened. Lord Brahma and Vishnu then approached Shiva and requested him to save the earth from destruction and take back his linga.

Shiva consoled them and took back his linga. Lord Shiva promised his divine presence in the form of a Jyotirlinga at Darukavan forever.

The Nageshwar Temple is open from 6:30 AM to 12:30 PM. It is also open from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Devotees can visit the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga during this time.

How to Reach at Nageshwar Jyotirlinga

By Air

The easiest way to reach Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is by air. Jamnagar International Airport, located near Nageshwar Temple, is the closest airport. After that, you can take a taxi or bus from there to temple.

By Train

If you're coming by train, you can also take the train to the nearby Dwarka Railway Station, which is where you can get in. After that, you can take a taxi, auto-rickshaw, or bus.

By Road

Nageshwar Jyotirlinga can also be reached by road. You will need to travel to Dwarka in Gujarat and then to Vet Dwarka. You can travel by your own vehicle or by taxi.
