An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align, casting a shadow on the other. A solar eclipse occurs on a new moon when the Moon comes between the Sun and Earth, casting a shadow, while a lunar eclipse occurs on a full moon when the Earth comes between the Sun and Moon.

Eclipses occur primarily when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align, or when a shadow is created between the Sun, Moon, and Earth. This doesn't happen with other planets because they are neither satellites of Earth nor close to Earth.

According to Vedic astrology, Graha Yoga is considered a highly inauspicious yoga, formed when Rahu and Ketu are in conjunction with the Sun or Moon in the same house. This yoga can cause adverse effects such as lack of self-confidence, mental stress, poor health, career obstacles, and family discord. Example, Surya Grahan Yoga does not create a rift between father and son, just as Chandra Grahan Yoga increases mental unrest and create a rift between father and child.

The principle of a solar eclipse is that, it occurs when the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth. In this situation, the Moon blocks sunlight from reaching the Earth, causing the Moon's shadow to fall on the Earth and completely or partially obscure the Sun. This phenomenon always occurs on the new moon day, because on the new moon day, the Sun and Moon are aligned.

The principle of a lunar eclipse is that, it occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon. In this situation, causing the Earth's shadow fall on the Moon and completely or partially obscure the Moon.
