Introduction to Vishwakarma Puja(विश्वकर्मा पूजा)

According to “Sanatan Dharma Granths”, Vishwakarma is the son of Lord Brahma. He is considered to be the god of workmanship and a divine architect called “Karigar” or “Shilpakar”. It is said that as many wonderful temples or forts have been built in the world as it seems that these have been built by humans, but these may have been built by Lord Vishwakarma.

Significance of Vishwakarma Puja

This festival is celebrated mainly in factories and industrial areas, often on the shop floor. The day of puja is marked with devotion not only by the engineering and architectural community but also by the artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, smiths, welders, etc. Industrial workers, factory workers and others. They pray for a better future, safe working conditions and above all, success in their respective fields. The workers also pray for the smooth operation of various machines.

Lord Vishwakarma is said to be a craftsman and architect. Apart from this, he is known as the creator of the universe. There is a religious belief that by committing some mistakes on this day, the seeker has to face many problems in life. Therefore, one should avoid making some mistakes on this day. Let us know what to do and what not to do on the day of Vishwakarma Puja.

Special statues and images of Vishwakarma are usually installed in every workplace and factory. All the workers gather at a common place and worship with reverence and devotion. On the third day of Vishwakarma Puja, everyone immerses the idol of Lord Vishwakarma with great enthusiasm.

Story About Lord Vishwakarma

There is a religious belief that Lord Vishwakarma was incarnated on the day of Kanya Sankranti. For this reason, this day is celebrated as Vishwakarma Jayanti. Lord Vishwakarma is said to be the creator of all the Deva Nagaris or Divine Cities like Swarga Lok, Pushpak Viman, Kuber Puri. Apart from this, Lord Vishwakarma had built the golden Lanka and the city of Dwarka for Lord Krishna.

There is a religious belief that by worshiping Lord Vishwakarma methodically on this auspicious occasion, the person gets freedom from obstacles in the workplace and gets immense success in business.

It is defined in Ramayana that Ravana's golden Lanka was made by Vishwakarma. He is considered self-sufficient and the creator of the world. He built the holy city of Dwaraka where Krishna ruled, the Maya assembly of the Pandavas, and the deities. As per mentioned in the Rigveda, Lord Vishwakarma is the creator, the science of mechanics and architecture.

Vishwakarma Puja Vidhi

Here I mentioned the Puja Vidhi of Lord Vishwakarma in a very simple way.
  • Before waking up in the morning, the place where puja is to be done should be thoroughly cleaned. Then you set up a puja mandap or chowki there. You should definitely keep an asana above the chowki.
  • After that, apply the toran with flowers and mango leaves tied and taken to the puja place.
  • Place the photo or idol of Vishwakarma on the chowki. Then you will install a Kalash.
  • Near the Chowki, on the asana, do special worship of tools and machines of your works.
  • After the installation of Kalash, the photo or idol of Ganesh will definitely remain. A garland of flowers was placed on all the photos and the statue.
  • First of all, you need to call or “Avahan” to Lord Ganesh with some Akshat and some flowers taking in palm. After that again, take some Akshat and flowers and call to “Lord Bishwakarma”.
  • Then, offer ganga jal for bathe to Ganesh and Vishvakarma. You can also offer, fragrant water, ghee bath, honey bath, sugar bath, milk bath to Lord Vishwakarma. Then you must definitely offer “Hasto Arghya” to Lord Ganesh and Vishwkarma. Hasto Arghya is water mixed with flower, sandalwood paste, haridra, Kumkum and Akshat.
  • Then you will offer clothes to Ganesh ji. Then worship Ganesh ji with dhoop/insense sticks, ghee lamp, fragrant flowers and perfume. Roli, moli, turmeric powder, sandal wood paste, kalava offer to Lord Ganesh. Then offer sweet recipes as Naivedyam. While doing puja, request to remove all types obstacles and problems come in your life.
  • Then worship Kalash, offer flowers, durva, betel nuts, Akshaat, ber leaves on top of Kalash. Along with offer to Vishwkarmaji's photo/murti, sandalwood paste, Akshat, Janeu, flowers, turmeric powder etc.
  • Worship Kalash, offer flowers, durva, betel nuts, Akshat, ber leaves on top of Kalash. Along with Vishwakarma ji's photo/murti, Sandalwood paste, Akshat, Janeu, seasonal flowers, turmeric paste etc.
  • Then offer dhoop, ghee lamp or diya, perfume, Roli, Moli will embrace you.
  • Then offer any five seasonal fruits to Vishwakarma ji. Then Dhoop, ghee lamp, perfume, Roli, Moli to Lord Vishwkarma along with also offer,
  • Any five seasonal fruits to Vishwakarma ji.
  • After that, ask for forgiveness. Then do his Pradakshina. In the end of puja you can do havan if you wanted, otherwise you can do perform Arti of Lord Vishwkarma as well.
  • So guys, this is the process to worship of Lord Vishwkarma which we have explained in a very short cut, which you can do yourself. If you want to do it as per the perfect rituals way then you can call any Pandit of your choice and perform the puja.

What to do on the day of Vishwakarma Puja?

  • Donation should be done among poor people as per their devotion.
  • Mantras of Lord Vishwakarma should be chanted.
  • If possible, donate gifts, sweets, garments to your employees.

What not to do on the day of Vishwakarma Puja?

  • Don't keep the house dirty.
  • Don't think wrong about anyone.
  • Do not insult elders and women.
  • Do not sleep during the day after performing morning puja.
  • Do not use tools and machines.
