About PaushPutrada Ekadashi 2025

Introduction to Pausha Putrada Ekadashi

One by one, Lord Shri Krishna has told Yudhishthira about all the Ekadashis. Every month, there are two Ekadashis, come in a month. One in Shukla Paksha and one in Krishna Paksha. In this way, 24 Ekadashis come in a year. If you think from a scientific point of view, fasting gives a person a long life. Fasting removes dead cells from the body and new cells are produced. That is why from the beginning, there are rules for long fasts like Navratri, Ekadashi.

Yudhishthira asked Shri Krishna, hey! Vasudeva, you have told me about all the Ekadashis one by one, I am grateful to you.

Please what is the name of the Ekadashi that is in the month of Pausha and what is the significance of that Ekadashi? I am very eager to know, please describe it in detail.

Shri Krishna said hey! Oh Kunti Shresth!

I know, you are very interested in Ekadashi and want to know about all the Ekadashis, definitely I am telling you the importance of the Ekadashi which is come in the Pausha Month.

The Story of Pausha Putrada Ekadashi

Shri Krishna said that there was a king named Suketumaan in a city named Bhadravati. Suketumaan was a good ruler, everyone in his city was happy. He was married to Queen Shaibya.

Queen Shaibya was unhappy because she did not have a child even after many years had passed. Both of them were very sad about this. Both of them always kept thinking that who will perform our Shraddha after our time is over? And who will perform the Shraddha of our ancestors.

They will not get peace and after death they will become wandering souls. Disappointed, the king left his kingdom and went to the forest without telling anyone. After wandering in the forest for many days, Suketumaan reached the ashram of some sages on the banks of Lake Manasarovar on the day of Putrada Ekadashi.

The sages told, that they were ten divines Vishwa Devas. The king bowed to them and told his problem. Then they advised the king to observe the fast of Putrada Ekadashi to get a son. After that the king came to know about the fast of Putrada Ekadashi and he returned to the kingdom. Then he shared everything with his queen Shaibya and both of them kept the fast of Putrada Ekadashi as told by the sages and started worshiping Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi. After sometime, the king got a son.

His son gradually grew up and became a young man. King Suketumaan had also become old by then. Then one day seeing the auspicious muhurat, he did the coronation of his son. And later the king started handling the work. Both the king and the queen then went to spend their life in the forest.

Significance of Pausha Putrada Ekadashi

So, this was the power of Pausha Putrada Ekadashi fast, whoever is sonless, by observing the fast of this Ekadashi, he definitely gets a son.
