Biju a Colorful Festival
Biju, a colorful festival is celebrated by the Chakma community for 3 days, which marks the beginning of the new year for them. This festival is also celebrated by seven other ethnic groups in Tripura. Biju Festival is an ancient festival that is basically held to ensure that the new agricultural season ends well with the harvest. Today it represents an opportunity to celebrate and showcase the rich cultural diversity of the Chakma people.
Objective of this Festival
The main objective of celebrating the festival is to create awareness about the culture and traditions of the Chakma community among the young generation.
Day 1: Phool Biju, people offer floral tributes to nearby rivers.
Day 2: Mul Biju, is celebrated with the performance of traditional songs and dances, concluding with the famous Biju dance.
Day 3: Final Day, known as Goche Poche Biju, the elders of the community are honored with an elaborate feast and marriage vows are renewed with your spouse.
