The Significance of Govardhan Puja

This day is very important for them who are worshipping Lord Kirshna. This puja is basically for Lord Krishna when he protects the Brajvashi . As per “Bhagavata Mahapurana”, Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan Hill for 7-8 days to protect the villagers in Vrindavan as shelter from storm, heavy rains, and unlimited thunders attacked as well as lightening which was scaring by Lord Indra. People of Vrindavan was in panic and through continuous rain and thunder. But Lord Krishna had broken Indra's pride.

Since those days, people worship Govardhan Hill to protect the devotees. Devotees offer foods, flowers, they do puja of the Govardhan Hill as well as Lord Vashudev.

This is very low-level hills not so high situated in the Mathura and Vrindavan area. But people make a hill like in the cow dung to worship Govardhan Hill. People worship this hill and they do Parikrama around the Govardhan Hill by walking. After that, offer flowers, Dhoop, Deep, Naivedyas, Arti, Dakshina, Pradakshina and so on. After the pujan, devotes also chant “Om Name Bhagwate Vasudevaya” called Sri Hari mantra, perform “Pradakshina” around Shri Krishna followed by Krishna Aarti.

After finishing the pooja, devotees share Naivedya as prasad in the neighbours and home. This day is very important especially for the devotees of Govardhan Hill and Vaishnav people.
