About Kali Chaudash, Roop Chaudas 2025

When is Kali Chaudas (काली चौदस)?

Kali Chaudas or Kali Chaturdashi come just after Dhanteras. It is come on the fourteenth day of the Krishna Paksha in Kartik Month before “Diwali Amavasya” in the month of “Kartik” or during October and November.

Why Celebrate Kali Chaudas?

This is also a part of Diwali Festival. Because people celebrate Diwali for 5 days around in the house. Kali Chaudas is specifically focused on the worship of Goddess Kali just one day before Diwali on the occasion of Kartik Month Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi Tithi. People worship Goddess Kali on the day, to protect from evil effects, and remove negativities as well as obstacles in their life. The term “Kali+Chaudas” , Kali means Goddess Kali and Chaudas means 14 days of Krishna Paksh Chaturdashi. That’s why it is named as “Kali Chaudas”.

On the same day people also celebrate in different name, with different ways like Kali Chaudas, Roop Chaudas, Narak Chaturdashi so on.

As per “Bhagavatham”, on the day “Lord Sri Krishna” killed the demon “Narakasura”. This is also called the victory of good over evil. So, that’s why people celebrate as Narak Chaturdashi on the day. Some people do “Tantrik Puja”, in the mid-night in cremation ground, especially this puja goes basically in North East and West Bengal areas.

The Significance of Kali Chaudas

Whereas, as per “Devi Mahatmya” when the Goddess Durga was fighting against the demon “Rakta Beej”. The demon “Rakta Beej” had been granted a boon, he can’t die, when any drop of blood fall on the ground he will regenerate again from the drop of blood. That’s why his name was “Rakta+Beeja”.

The goddess “Katayayani” she is the sixth incarnation of “Navdurga” fighting with Rakta Beeja and unable kill him due to his power of the boon. Then she generates Goddess Kali from her third eye to help her in the war, when Goddess Kali, she would cut his head with the sword, then she would drink before the blood that came out of it fell into the ground.

Moreover, sometimes by mistake any drop of blood would fall down, Lord Bhairav was along with the mother Kali was also behind her in the form of a black dog and would immediately lick the blood drop as soon as it fell.

So, finally Goddess Kali killed the demon “Rakt Beeja” on this day. On the day some people celebrate as Kali Chaudas and today people do mantra-tantra and black magic by worshipping Goddess Kali. She is very well known to give quick result and protect from immediate calamities, evil effects.
