About Haryana Heroes' Martyrdom Day 2025

Introduction to Martyrdom Day

Haryana Veer Martyrdom Day is celebrated every year on 23 September in Haryana. It is a regional public holiday in the state. On this day, Martyrs' Day is celebrated to honour the individuals who sacrificed themselves to protect the country and Haryana.

Martyrdom Day of the Brave is celebrated on the day Rao Tula Ram died. Rao Tula Ram was a freedom fighter in 1857, where the country's first war of independence was fought against the British government in India. He died on 23 September 1863.

He was a very courageous person. Rao is regarded as a hero in the state of Haryana. He fought to free Haryana from the British. He also helped the rebel army in Delhi at that time. However, on this day the Haryana government pays tribute to the soldiers and fighters who fought for India. Every year a ceremony is organized at the War Memorial in Gurgaon as a mark of respect and during the ceremony a salute is given by the police personnel in the memory of the heroes. The policemen also keep their weapons upside down during the ceremony.

The Story of Rao Tula Ram

Rao Tula Ram was a prominent Indian freedom fighter and leader during the First Independence War in 1857. He was born in Rewari districts of present-day Haryana, India and belonged to the Jat community.

He was born in a landlord family and was proud of his community and heritage. He was well educated and understood the socio-political scenario of his times. He emerged as a leader during the rebellion against British colonial rule. He organized and led a rebellion in the region of Haryana, uniting local Jat farmers and soldiers against British domination. Tula Ram was known for his guerrilla warfare tactics and his ability to mobilize support among the rural population. Their goal was to establish an independent Indian state free from British control.
