Significance of New Year
In the Gregorian calendar, New Year's Day is the January 1, which is the first day of the calendar year. It is based on the most solar calendars such as Gregorian and Julian begin the year regularly at or near the northern winter solstice, whereas cultures and religions that follow lunisolar or lunisolar calendars celebrate their Lunar New Year at less fixed points relative to the solar year.
Why New Year Started on January?
In pre-Christian Rome under the Julian calendar, the day was dedicated to Janus, which is the god of entrances and beginnings, for whom January is also named, from Roman times to the mid-18th century, the New Year was celebrated at various stages and in different parts of Christian Europe on December 25, March 1, March 25, and the movable feast of Easter.
