Who is Shashti Devi?

Sasthi Osha or Vrat is basically a festival of Odisha. Shashti Devi is the cause of children. It is said that she always protects and keep safe the children from negativities and calamities.

The worship of Goddess Shashti is celebrated on the Shashti Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. This pooja is dedicated to Goddess Shashti.

In the state of Odisha, this puja is performed by mothers for the well-being and longevity of their children. It is a regional festival of Odisha. Shashti Puja is performed on the sixth day of every lunar month in Bhadra month of the Hindu calendar and also on the sixth day of the birth of a child. At the Jagannath temple in Puri, the idol of Shashti Mata is worshiped inside the Bhubaneswari temple.

As part of this ritual, the mother makes small idols of Shashti Mata with her family using clay or turmeric.
