Significance of Buddha Purnima
Vesak, a Buddhist festival also known as Buddha Jayanti or Buddha Purnima, and Buddha Day, is a festival or holiday traditionally celebrated by Buddhists. It is one of the most important Buddhist festivals. This festival commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha in Theravada. Theravada is the official Buddhist religion of Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Cambodia, and the main predominant form of Buddhism found in Laos and Thailand. It is also followed by the minorities in China, Nepal, North Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, and Taiwan, India, and Bangladesh.
