How Karka Sankranti Formed?

Karka Sankranti also called “Dakshinayana Sankranti” or “Monsoon Sankranti”, or “Shravan Sankranti” The entry of the Sun from one zodiac sign to another is called Sankranti. In simple terms, the entry of the Sun from Gemini Sign to Cancer Sign is called Karka Sankranti.

Significance of Karka Sankranti

Whichever Sankranti is it, but it is considered to be the best for charity. It is believed that charity gives the most fruit in this Sankranti period. Now let's talk about Karka Sankranti. It is also called Sawan or Shravan Sankranti. It is clearly, clear that this month is for worship of Lord Shiva. In this, the entry of the Sun from one zodiac sign to another is called Shravan Sankranti. According to the Hindu calendar, it is considered to be the end of the six months Uttarayana period. Also, Dakshinayan starts from this day, which ends in Makar Sankranti.

Importance of Karka Sankranti

Sankranti is also related to agriculture, nature, and seasonal changes. Lord Sun is known as the factor of nature. That is why he is worshipped on the day of Sankranti. In the scriptures, Sun is considered to be the soul of physical and non-physical elements. Some important changes in seasons and climate happen according to their condition.

After worshiping on the day of Sankranti, jaggery and sesame, Tilkut as Naivedya or prasad is distributed. As we all know, Sankranti is an auspicious day. Worshiping Sun God on Kark Sankranti is also considered extremely beneficial.

Benefits of Sankranti

It is believed that no new work should be started on Kark Sankranti. On Karka Sankranti, clothes and food should be donated to the poor. Donating oil on this day is considered auspicious for the peace of the soul of ancestors. Apart from this, there is special significance of donating orange clothes to little girl or green fruits to children on Kark Sankranti is beneficial.

What to do in Karka Sankranti?

  • Wake up early in the morning, take a bath and wear clean clothes, wearing red or yellow colour clothes is very good.
  • Offer water to the Lord Sun facing the East Direction.
  • Put red flowers, rice and Kumkum, turmeric etc. in water in a copper pot.
  • Chant the mantras of the Sun God, such as 'Om Suryaya Namah' or 'Om Ghrini Suryaya Namah' or 'Om Adityaye Namah'.
  • Light up a ghee lamp and show incense(dhoop) to the Sun.
  • Offer jaggery, Tilkut, fruits or other home-made sweets to the Sun God.
  • Perform Aarti at the end.
  • Apologize for any mistake made during the puja.
  • Donate grains, clothes, or money as per your capacity.
  • Feeding green fodder to cows is also considered auspicious on this day.
  • Eat pure and Satvik food on this day. Avoid tamasic things.
