This is the auspicious period when the king of the zodiac, Sun God, enters his zodiac sign Leo. The change in the zodiac sign of Sun God is known as Sankranti. It is believed that those who worship the Sun at this auspicious time and offer “Arghya” to him get happiness and peace according to that, so know the auspicious signs and rules of this day.

The Story of Simha Sankranti

It is believed that during the reign of the Chand Dynasty, the craftsmen used to exhibit their dolls in the palace on the day of Simha Sankranti. They were given certificates by the king for their hard work and diligence. Ordinary men and women of the dynasty also used to be a part of this festival and made fruit and flower industries to the members of the royal family. The tradition of offering fruits and other offerings to the members of the royal family was known as “Olag Sanskar”.

On this day, butter and ghee are consumed on Kulthi roti throughout the Kumaon Region in Uttarakhand. Due to the extensive use of ghee on the occasion of Simha Sankranti, it is named Ghee Sankranti in the Bageshwar region of Kumaon, Uttarakhand.
