How Tula Sankranti Formed?
When the Sun left Virgo Sign and enter into the Libra Sign called Tula Sankranti, in Odisha or Eastern Part of India say “Garbhana Sankranti”. According to the Gregorian calendar, Tula Sankranti falls in the month of October Month or Kartik Month as per Sanatan Calendar.
Significance of Tula Sankranti
The Term “Garbhana” means pregnant this Sankranti is mainly celebrated to honour of the success of farmers in rice cultivation, this is just like a pregnant woman feels happy and proud of her womb during the pregnancy period. The celebration of this day follows up local social, religious, and cultural significance.
The Tula Sankranti is very auspicious. On the day, people wake up in early morning, take a bath and freshen up. Then after offering Arghya to the Sun God, they visit Shiva temple. This system mostly people who are from southern parts of India worship Sankranti. They must visit Shiva or Vishnu temple early in the morning. They belief, on the day of Sankranti if you visit Shiva temple will give beneficial result and gives one the desired result.
What to do in Tula Sankranti?
- Sankranti Puja Vidhi is very simple, you can follow the steps given below:
- You should get up early in the morning, take a bath and wear clean clothes, it is very good to wear red or yellow clothes.
- Stand facing in the East Direction and offer Arghya to Surya Narayana with the chanting of Surya Mantra.
- Put red flowers, rice, Kumkum, turmeric etc. in water in a copper pot.
- While offering Arghya to Lord Sun, chant any one of the Sun God's mantras, such as 'Om Suryaya Namah' or 'Om Ghrini Suryaya Namah' or 'Om Adityaya Namah'.
- Light a ghee lamp and burn incense sticks and offer Arghya to Lord Sun God.
- Offer jaggery, fruits or other home-made sweets as Naivedya to Sun God.
- Remember, don’t forget to perform Mangal Aarti. Do Kapoor Arti in a brass or copper plate with some flowers, camphor, elaichi, loung and with some coins as Dakshina.
- Perform Kshyama Yachna or called apologize for any mistake made during the puja.
- Donate grains, clothes, money, or any service according to your capacity.
- Feeding green fodder to cows is also considered auspicious on this day.
- Avoid tamasic food on this day, eat pure and Satvik food. Tamasic food includes non-vegetarian food, alcohol, and keep a distance from the sex.
