What is Sandhi Puja?
During Navratri puja, and especially on the Maha Ashtami tithi (day), Sandhi Puja holds special significance. It is performed at the time when the Ashtami tithi ends and the Navami tithi begins; this period is called the Sandhi Muhurta.
According to the Devi Mahatmya or Durga Saptashati Mahapurana, it is believed that Goddess Chamunda manifested during this time to slay the demons Chanda and Munda.

Sandhi Puja is traditionally performed for a duration of two ghatis, which is approximately 48 minutes, less than an hour. The Sandhi Puja Muhurta can occur at any time of day, and the Sandhi Puja is performed during that specific time.
It is believed that offerings are made to Goddess Durga during this Sandhi Muhurta. Previously, animal sacrifices were offered, but now vegetables such as pumpkins, watermelons, and gourds are offered. It is said that after the offering is made, the Goddess is pleased and fulfills the devotee's wishes.
