Significance of Ashadha Amavasya
Ashadha Amavasya is coming in the month of May. Ashadha Amavasya has a great significance on the day, people donate in the name of ancestors and forefathers. People also do “Shradha”. Though our mythology said, our first father on the earth is Lord Vishnu. So, this day is also good to worship Vishnu and perform other rituals. Amavasya is best for donating anything to the poor, serving cow. Though this Amavasya falls on the Tuesday it is called as "Bhauma Amavasya".
Some Rituals Performed on the Amavasya Day
On this day, people also practice and performed some activities like following:
- Pitru Puja like Tarpan and Shradha,
- Bathing in the Ganges River,
- Feeding animals,
- Preparing Sattvik food,
- Feeding Brahmins and giving Daan and Dakshina to them,
- Preparing roti or chapati and feeding the cows.
