Significance of Hariyali Amavasya
Shravan Amavasya is also called as “Hariyali Amavasya”, one of the amavasya that come in the month of August and is celebrated in Sanatan religion as well as world. Here are some details about Shravan Amavasya.
Shravan Amavasya (श्रावण अमावस्या) or Hariyali Amavasya is a day to honour and remember ancestors and forefathers for Pitru Tarpan, Marjon, Donation are the best way to improve and get the blessings of ancestors. It is also a day to worship Vishnu and perform other rituals.
Some practices performed on this day include:
- Pitru Puja, Pitru Tarpan,
- Donating anything in the name of ancestors
- Bathing in the Ganga River
- Feeding animals
- Preparing Sattvik food in the house
- Feeding and Donating to the Brahmins at your home
- Preparing roti or chapati and feeding them to cows
Though Amavasya is not for any auspicious works. But it is also best for inauspicious works and activities like holy bath in the river, Pitru Tarpan, Pitru Puja, Pind Daan, charity, havan, and feeding Brahmins. This day is not powerful astrologically as it is dedicated to the waning Moon.
